The group's environmental management system enables it to assess the environmental impact of activities across all of its businesses and then to set objectives to reduce these impacts. To date £8m additional income has been generated from renewable energy generation and recycling, and £1m has been saved through reductions in electricity and vehicle fuel consumption.
Union Railways (South) Ltd
By selecting contractors on the basis of environmental criteria and minimising environmental risk early in the planning process, the largest infrastructure project in the UK is intent on communicating and enforcing best practice in this field.
